Summary for September, 2024

The score looks pretty good in this Tech game, and there have been some great moments, but the overall performance is sus as hell. Especially on defense. Oh, and tons of stupid penalties.

Playing a game on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean just a week ago may have taken its toll a bit. Hopefully Tech can be more consistent.

That flop was Oscar-worthy.

Giving up 274 yards on the ground with nearly 6 ypc is really something. Feeling a little less pumped about the relevance of Tech’s win against FSU in Ireland.

Finished another openHASP touch control plate today, this time for the great room. First time using the color picker, and it’s pretty cool to be able to change the color of the lighting with a touch.

I wasn’t particularly fond of LOTR: Rings of Power in its first season. While pretty, the writing and pacing let it down. I’m pleasantly surprised by season two thus far.

In my quest for maximizing A/V quality in my theater, I've been using a Zidoo Z9X to play movies and shows from my collection. It produces excellent quality, but the UX is awful, it doesn't have Plex, and its slow and janky. Luckily I found a better option: CoreELEC and an Ugoos AM6 Plus.

The UGOOS box has an Amlogic S922X-J under the hood, which has hardware-level support for every codec under the sun, and uniquely supports Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL, making it even better than my Zidoo. CoreELEC is Kodi, which is complicated, but once you finish setting it up, it is very nice to use.

Finally watched Furiosa this evening. What a prequel! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Finally started watching The Bear. There goes my next month of evenings.

The iOS Bitwarden client was rewritten to be a native SwiftUI app rather than a cross-platform abomination. So much better!

Man, Rings of Power S02E06 was quite a stinker. The first half of the season was pretty strong. Hoping that they’ll stick the landing, but my confidence is waning.

I’m going to attempt to get my O.G. iPod to work again. First order of business is charging it, and it’s not too hard to find FireWire 400 cables and charging bricks. Second is harder. FireWire 400 dongle-chain to Thunderbolt 3.

I’ve heard that it’s possible with a FireWire 400 to 800 dongle to a FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt dongle. There’s also the potential of an external PCIe enclosure with a FireWire card. Open to suggestions! Also, if you have any parts, I want them :)

This situation with Automattic and WP Engine is gross. Its really difficult to justify Mullenweg's behavior, which displays a level of hubris and entitlement that is disturbing. Why would a host want to partner with him now? Huge risk.

My first generation iPod restoration project is under way. I have the FireWire 400 to 800 adapter and the Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter in hand. Awaiting delivery on the FW 800 to TB2 adapter and an original FW power brick.

I also have a brand new battery on the way, as charging an ancient battery can cause it to swell and cause a lot of damage. Once I get everything working (🤞🏼), I will replace the original hard drive with flash storage.

Dungeons and Dragons birthday party for my son today! His four closest friends, a professional DM, and a nice short adventure. Such a fun idea for my guy. 🏰 🐉
